Chapter 14:

This chapter is basically about a tea party that Lilly Cheever has for Ms. Addie’s boarding house girls. However, Lily and Bella create a unique friendship and start chatted prior to being served the tea. After the tea has been served, Bella tries to socialize with the other girls but she doesn’t fit in anywhere. So, she goes to sit on a window seat and admire the scenery when Taylor Manning arrives. They start have harsh words against each other until Lily and Matthew Cheever come in the room. Taylor and Matthew leave and Lily and Bella discuss going to an event at the meeting hall. Taylor and Matthew discuss his behavior towards Bella.

This chapter has a lot in it as you can see, but it very long and descriptive, which makes it hard to keep your interest. It wasn’t until the end, that I couldn’t stop reading it.

Chapter 15:

This chapter is about William Thurston stirring up trouble for the Irish. He wanted to know from his two hired spies what had been happening in “The Acre” and then hatched a plan that would be trouble for the Irish. In essence, he told one to say that the Irish was going to take over the town and the mills and the other one to tell the Irish they are going to be thrown out of “The Acre” soon.

However, this chapter was short and to the point. The only problem was trying to keep awake until I finished it.

I will keep you posted when I can for more chapters in review, okay?

Chapter 13:

This chapter goes back to Blessing, North Dakota to focus on the Bjorkland family after Astrid left. Her mother is heartbroken and misses Astrid everyday, but realizes that Astrid is where she is supposed to be. There is also discussion about them building a hospital clinic bigger and better than the one they have. The other thing is that Ingeborg and Freda with the help of Pastor Solberg, Kaaren and Samuel force Anna to go outside on the porch in the sunlight. Then, Pastor Solberg, Kaaren, Freda, and Ingeborg pray over Anna to get well and see a reason for living again for the rest of Anna’s family.

Sort of a short chapter and not much description just basic details of the story. It was very intriguing and kept my attention.

More to come, later, okay?

Chapter 13:

This chapter discusses the associates of Lowell and the mills, Matthew Cheever, Kirk Boot and Nathan Appleton, as they meet with J.P. Green to discuss expansion and importing items overseas and throughout the country. However, he tells them about Liam Donohue working on his fireplace and now working at the new church. This alarms them because they didn’t authorize it.

Each chapter is like a story on its own weaved together about the town and the mills, which is very interesting to me.

More to come, whenever possible, okay?

Chapter 12:

This chapter is about Fred DeVault and Ellen Ashton discussing how to unionize the factory and town in Pullman. Then, he didn’t understand Olivia’s relation to her.

Chapter 13:

This chapter is set in Chicago and is about Lady Charlotte Spencer has she deals with her different customers in Marshall Fields. Also, Fred comes to help out his friend Bill Orland in Lockabee’s Design and Glass Etching Shop. Then, he gets into a conversation with Harland Ladner about the conditions at the factory and repercussions over the union meetings.

Chapter 14 and 15:

This chapter is about Olivia as she starts riding the Pennsylvania Limited train headed towards New York City. This is her first time riding as a spy for the Pullman company by herself. While she is riding, she becomes acquainted with a Matthew Clayborn of Chicago who is a journalist and very interested in her position and journal.
I am sorry to give you so much information, but this book is so interesting that I have a hard time putting it down.

Chapter 12:

This chapter isn’t quite as complex, but does talk about two or three things. The first is to tell more about Liam Donohue and his background while discussing his daily life. Then, he learns about Noreen’s , the caretaker of his boarding house, life. At the end, William Thurston is introduced in the book as the father of Noreen’s nephew. Also, he has two men to meet him to talk about what is happening in the town and in the construction of the church.

This chapter was interesting, but it becomes difficult to keep up with the book moving from one story to the other. Though, I have just been focusing on one story at time regardless of the story.

More to come later, okay?

Chapter 10:

The summary of this chapter is about Liam Donohue’s background and how he came to Lowell and live in the Acre. That is the place in Lowell for Irish immigrants or people with Irish backgrounds because they can’t live with the rest of the town. Anyhow, he is shocked at their living conditions coming from Boston. Though, he starts to settle in to work as a stone mason for the new church here and work for the founder, Hugh Cummiskey.

This is an interesting chapter with very vivid descriptions, but at times seems lengthy even though it wasn’t.

I will keep you updated on the next chapter when I can, okay?
